Zach updates

Thankfully, Zach does like his pacifier.
Our little Zach is doing great and so is the rest of the fam. He is a really good baby and sleeps a ton. We are still figuring out what mommy can and can not eat to prevent his painful gas. Otherwise he is eating like a champ and gaining weight even if he only eats every 4 hours. Can't complain:)

The long awaited story of how Zach arrived: I woke up Sunday morning about 4 am noticing that I was uncomfortable consistently every 15 minutes. I was so curious when contractions would pick up and what the real ones would actually feel like. I was induced with Max so the whole "going into labor" idea made me nervous, curious, anxious, etc. So by the time church rolled around about 1pm I was tired and ready for a nap. Max struggles with this time of church so he had actually just fallen asleep at 12:30 so we decided since I was still having consistent, yet not painful, contractions I would stay home and hopefully nap while Max slept too. Well, I didn't get my nap in because Max woke up at 1pm. He was so sad Daddy was a church and kept asking for the car toys in Nursery. So we went to church in time for Sunday School so I was able to help John teach my lesson. My mind was a little scattered as I talked/taught through more consistent contractions. I guess I should have been timing things but you know how the time goes slower when you watch the clock. By the end of church I was getting disappointed that I had basically been in early labor for 12 hours and things didn't really seem to be progressing. When we got home I was tired, uncomfortable and getting kind of irritated. I felt like I knew the baby would come within the next day or so but things were just going really slow. But nonetheless, I wanted to go get checked. So the babysitter came over, I gave way too many detailed instructions and kind of lingered around wondering if everything was ready. By the time we were getting into the car I was having to stop what I was doing through my contractions and I really remember the road being SO bumpy on the way to the hospital making me way more uncomfortable. I felt kind of silly walking into Labor and Delivery. What are you supposed to say? "Hi, I think I should be here now to have my baby. I know you might send me home and that's ok." So they weren't rushing to get me set up too quick. We checked in at 7:40pm. I think we called our parents at 8pm because when they finally checked me I was dilated to 8cm. I quickly asked if I could still have an epidural and they assured me that I had been through the worst of it (yeah right) and my baby would be here before I knew it. I surprisingly wasn't scared of the pain because I think I was just so surprised they were telling me we were going to be done soon. So by 8:20pm the on-call Dr., whom I had met the Wednesday before, was there and telling me to push. That was a learning experience. I actually felt like I was doing something as opposed to Max's delivery. 17 minutes of pushing and Zach arrived at 8:37pm. I couldn't believe I did it! It was such a different experience than Max's labor and delivery, have I already said that:) Likewise my recovery has been a breeze. I was up walking around the halls at 7am wishing we could go home. With Max I was terrified to leave the hospital on day 3 because I felt disabled. We left the hospital with Zach after 48 hours and had wonderful grandparents around to help for about a week and a half. Anything else I left out? We love our little guy and Max is even being a pretty good big brother.

Wow - definitely brothers!

That story sounds strangely familiar - what, from the irritatingly not knowing if I was really in labor, to showing up and saying, um - I'm hear to have a baby (i think) to um, yes you are, like RIGHT NOW!!!

Congrats guys, he's a doll and we are so happy for you, two little boys are the best, loud, but the best!

You're scarying me Bethany! :D My Dr. here is Richard's boss and he's pretty relaxed about things. I'm fairly sure we'll have to go into labor naturally, aaahhh! I'm SO glad the recovery was much easier than with Max. That was a tough one (at least from my perspective). I echo some of your other comments; I think Zach looks like Max. Sometime when we get to your house I'll have to have you dig out Max's baby pics. Perhaps we'll see you in a few weeks!

Max looks so grown up in these pictures! We are sad we can't go to the blessing next weekend. Take lots of pictures of people with baby Zach and big brother Max. See, it wasn't that hard without the drugs! You're awesome and now you can say you're tough too. Jo

I can't believe you did it all on your own. You make it sound easy! He is a cute little guy and glad to hear that things are going well. Hope he doesn't knock out you eating everything good cuz of his gas :)
